Moissanites are the best alternatives to a Diamond. Comprised of carbon and silicon, Moissanite is one of the most robust and hardest known elements on earth. They are manufactured while considering the environment. They are engineered to endure the test of time. Due to their higher Refractive Index, they sparkle more and the best thing, a Moissanite gemstone will cost you only 1/10th of the price of a diamond.
Laboratory produced Moissanites are made in such a way that they give the illusion of closeness to diamonds, but they are very different from real diamonds both in appearance and composition. Even other properties like endurance, brilliance, and colour of the two gems are pretty dissimilar.
Mainly composed of carbon and silica it has an incredible hardness of 9.25 making them second hardest material after diamonds. Thus they are not prone to scratches or become hazy with wear or dull with time or lose their visual attributes.
Only a laboratory can tell the difference between a Moissanite and a Diamond.
In 1905, this mineral was named Moissanite after the Nobel-Prize winning scientist Henri Moissan in his honour.
WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF MOISSANITE?The most important aspects of a jewel are its beauty, durability and rarity. The following information describes how a gem can have these properties:
Beauty
The following properties define the beauty of a jewel:
Brilliance:- cutting designs are used to attain the brilliance of a jewel that uses the jewel's refractive index. It is measured by the quantity of light that enters the jewel and is reflected.
Fire:- The dispersion of a jewel coupled with the design results in the breaking of light rays into the spectrum of colours. It is scaled by the amount of coloured flashes.
Luster:- Luster is the amount of light that is reflected from the surface of the jewel.
Rarity
Rarity is the availability of a jewel. Naturally occurring quantities of Moissanite are so little that they can't be used for commercial purposes.
Durability
The durability of a jewel is decided by its hardness or resistance to scratching.
Moissanite is second in hardness after diamond and incredibly sturdy and is thus extremely durable.
Superior Heat Resistance
Moissanite has heat resistance properties higher than other jewels and is used for making fine jewellery.
Moissanite Clarity
The pioneers of Moissanites, Charles & Colvard, employ gemologists certified by the Gemological Institute of America to grade their Moissanites. Each Charles & Colvard gemstone is analysed by these specialists using a 10x jeweler's loupe for any inclusions that may affect its optical performance or price.
Moissanite Color
Charles & Colvard strictly refrain from classifying or grading Moissanites according to their colours.
Moissanite Shapes
Charles and Colvard produce Moissanites in various shapes. One can buy according to their requirement and preference. It is available in 13 different shapes.
Of all the popular shapes, round shape moissanite optical properties carry the greatest brilliance.
There are three varieties of Moissanites available:-
Forever One Moissanite:- Charles & Colvard Forever One Moissanite is an achievement of art, science and sustained efforts. The structural arrangement of this specific moissanite material is what yields its unprecedented, colourless (D-E-F) quality. While it's optical and hardness traits remain the same, it is the stacking of SiC substance that makes Forever One moissanite different from others..
